EV8 Switch
Electric vehicles & charging
- What is an EV?
-
An Electric Vehicle (EV) is any vehicle which uses a battery to power a motor, which drives the wheels. As an EV drives, it uses up the energy stored in the battery in the same way that a petrol or diesel car uses up fuel in the tank. This means an EV needs to be recharged after a while to top-up the battery.
- What is a chargepoint?
-
Modern EVs can be charged at any chargepoint. Chargepoints are often located in car parks, on street kerbs and at service stations. People with off-street parking or a driveway typically install a chargepoint at home too.
- Where should I go for more information about EVs?
-
The EV Info page on the EV8 Switch app introduces all users to Electric Vehicles, their benefits and charging options. One of EV8’s founding partners, Cenex, has published a free online resource for people to find out more about EVs.
Using EV8 Switch
- Should I get an EV?
-
EV8 Switch cannot advise you on whether an EV is truly right for you. Whilst the EV8 Switch app provides a huge amount of data to help you make an informed decision, ultimately this lies with you as the vehicle purchaser.
- Why are hybrid vehicles not included in the EV Options list?
-
The Government has proposed a ban on the sale of hybrid vehicles from 2035 onwards. EV8 with the support of NatWest wants to help you understand if you can switch to a Battery Electric Vehicle, which is a long-term transport solution.
- Why do you need to log 14 days of data?
-
For the app to provide more reliable results, you will need to collect 14 days of driving data to unlock personalised insights, advice and recommendations. This is the minimum number of days of data we collect in order for us to generate a picture of how an EV might fit into your lifestyle.
- Why do you need to know if I could charge an EV at home or at work?
-
Charging at home or work is the most convenient way to top-up your EV and will give you convenient access to a chargepoint. This increases your “Switchability Score” as you are less reliant upon the public charging network.
- Why do I need to allow the app to use my location?
-
We log your journeys to build up a picture of how you get around. We use this journey information to calculate your “Switchability Score”. Without this, we have no way of being able to suggest how an EV might fit into your lifestyle.
- Where is the data from the app stored?
-
The data collected through the app is stored securely on the EV8 platform. For more information, please contact support@ev8-tech.com.
- How can I be sure my personal data is protected?
-
We follow very strict data security and privacy policies, including GDPR compliance. If you have any concerns, please contact support@ev8-tech.com for more information.
